In the light of modern technological advancement, a variety of approaches to the studying process have emerged and became popular among students. As such, cramming and immersion techniques have been steadily integrated into traditional and innovative educational systems, however some consider a long-term way of studying as the only reliable way. I agree with the former position, yet I also believe that the obtaining of proficiency on the topic is significantly supported by addition of the other methods. Analysis of both of the positions will showcase this.
Cramming and immersion support a quick introduction to the topic for the learner, however fall short of committing the knowledge to a long-term memory. Specifically, these methods are in widespread use by high-school and university students as they allow for a quick, stimulating and comprehensive discovery of information. For example, cramming is one of the most used approaches for gaining understanding during exam period, and immersion is widely used in language learning tasks, however most of the information acquired in this manner usually is transient. Thus, in order for knowledge to be supported, repetitions for a sustained span of time is required.
Constant pursuit of knowledge is the best method for etching information for a long time, however it takes an immense amount of time and it requires extensive discipline. To illustrate, most of the holders of Doctor’s degrees have been dedicating their lifetime for researching and obtaining proficiency regarding specific areas of learning. However, attaining such a level stipulates a significant endurance and usually integrates a variety of approaches to studying, some of which are short-term focused. Therefore, even a comprehensive method as lifelong learning is often supported by additional ways of studying information.
To sum up, while lifelong learning has a slight edge over cramming and immersion methods, it still demands for the former inclusion. Thus, it is clear that enrichment of one approach with another can significantly elevate the quality of the knowledge incorporation. Therefore, in an attempt to establish a learning system with the most comprehension provided, it is crucial to amalgamate numerous approaches in the process.
