In the contemporary world, the less distinction between cultural characteristics of separate nations due to the adoption of the same lifestyle and recreational patterns is becoming obvious. From my perspective, the drawbacks of this transition surpass it’s positive effects for several compelling reasons.
To begin with, the beneficial impacts of the reduction in cultural differences are undeniable. One of the most remarkable reason is for globalization. Globalization is the process of connecting all countries harmoniously and tightly through the activities of economy, trade and marketing. If people residing in different areas around the world share the same interest and lifestyle, there would be an emotional connection among them regardless of geographical distance. Furthermore, the mentioned trend can be advantageous for manufacturers being active in any fields. When there is a similarity in shopping and recreational demands between customers, it allows national products to draw attention of foreigners, which in turn improves the revenue and reputation for brands.
Despite these merits, I hold a strong belief that the negative influences of the narrowing in cultural distinction are far more notable. First of all, it loses unique features of each nation. In fact, throughout the history, cultural values of a country have gradually been formed based on diverse experiences of their forefathers. They are tools to mark the national progress and standing on a global scale. However, the current state may diminish the recognition of foreigners for these characteristics. Secondly, the culture of small countries can be overshadowed given the dominance of other developed ones. With higher national budget, abundant labor workforce, and outstanding extent of development, the cultural patterns of several nations including Western countries and the US appear in numerous regions by innovative campaigns for proporgating. Famous fastfood brands of the US including McDonald’s and KFC, for example, are able to make a significant shift in eating habits of inhabitants in other countries such as Vietnam.
In conclusion, while cultural assimilation can bring about advantages for global connectivity and the interests of local brands, I still assert that it’s flaws, negative effects on cultural identity and the gradual fading of culture in smaller nations, need concerning more.
