Cultural tourism has become a growing industry in many country. People travel for visit museums, monuments and archaeological sites. I agree that this trend can bring benefits to a nation’s cultural heritage, but I believe that problems are often more bigger.
On the one hand, having many visitors can help to preserve cultural heritage. The money from tickets and tours can be used for restoration and maintenance of old buildings. For example, in Egypt, income from tourists who visit pyramids help to protect these ancient monuments. Also, when many people are interested in a culture, local governments pay more attention to it. This can leads to more funding and better laws to protect historical places.
On the other hand, there is several negative effects of cultural tourism. Firstly, too much tourists can damage fragile sites. For instance, ancient caves or old temples are not designed for thousands of people every day. The breath and touch of visitors can destroy wall paintings and stones. Secondly, some places become too commercial. Shops, hotels and restaurants are built near the historical sites, and this change the atmosphere. Moreover, local traditions may be performed only for money, so they lose their real meaning.
In conclusion, I mostly agree that cultural tourism can cause problems even if it also has benefits. I think governments should control number of visitors and use money carefully. If they do not do this, the cultural heritage will suffers. The benefits can be important, but the risks are more serious, so I agree with statement.
