Nowadays, there has been an influx of people going around the world for travel, and studies have shown that the number of travellers post-pandemic has surpassed the pre-pandemic record. A lot of nations have rich cultural heritage that attracts a lot of visitors from all over the world and while this is beneficial for the country, mishaps could happen while catering to visitors who are not yet well versed in the culture of the place they are visiting.
An instance where a place might be at a disadvantage would be the amount of litter that tourists could accumulate in places with neither accessible nor adequate garbage bins. Historical landmarks may also be at risk of vandalism where thoughtless people could damage these monuments or archaeological sites if not protected. Additionally, locals may be disrupted and could even be displaced if their area gradually becomes a tourist attraction.
One of the benefits would be more employment opportunities related to tourism for the locals who knows the best way to enjoy these cultural attractions. In addition to employment, businesses such as hotels, restaurants, rentals, and activities will be able to flourish in these areas with the help tourism and in turn improve the nation’s economy as well. Furthermore, the government may also provide newly built infrastructures to improve and assist the industry where this not only benefits the foreigners, but also residents.
Overall, while problems could have some solution, it is undeniable that nations gain a lot from its cultural tourism industry. I believe that the benefit it brings outweigh the problems that may possibly come with the increasing number of tourists. After all, as long as the tourists respect the culture and follow the rules and regulations of these cultural sites, then everyone gets to enjoy the beauty of travelling.
