While other teenagers’ memories of criticism are based on constructive tips, what I recall most from my recent time of being criticized I was feeling anxious – I still remember the pain those words put on my shoulders, because my actions did not match those of my friends. Although bullying and human rights come a long way, nowadays some people still don’t know how to say their opinion without being rude.
I grew up with a kind family that taught me to respect everyone’s job, whereas the moment I helped an employee of the shopping center in my area when I was out with some friends recently, the criticism made its presence felt. So my buddies started saying that this workman should not be helped no matter what, because that is his job, and me giving him a hand is doing his job for free. Even after their rude explanations I couldn’t understand why they continued when all I did was giving him a few hangers that he dropped. I couldn’t control my nerves anymore and yelled saying their judgement is not fair. I didn’t react appropriately, but I’ve learned that now because you never respond to meanness with it.
However I still believe that encouraging criticism exist, in view of the fact that last month the same employee that I helped gave me some truthful advice on how to choose the right friends and that’s how I realized that everything that happens has a reason. You never know how your altruism will help you in the future.
