Some people are of the opinion that although walking offers numerous benefits for people’s health, the number of people nowadays choosing walking to exercise has declined at an unprecedented rate in urban places. In this essay, I will explore the reasons behind this development before proposing some viable solutions to promote walking among individuals.
There are several reasons why walking is becoming less popular among modern citizens. In this day and age, It is true that big cities are considered to be the economic hub and cultural center, where the headquarters of many big firms and other institutions converge. Therefore, individuals especially the young tend to migrate to urban areas to seek better employment opportunities and other good services including healthcare and education, which can help raise their living standards and live a better life. However, this tendency can lead to the status of overpopulation in cities means an excessive number of people live in one place. They will require housing and other necessities to live. As a result, more places including walking spaces are cleared to make room for residential areas for residents, which can lead to the lack of communal areas for people to walk and exercise . Resulting in the sedentary lifestyle of many modern individuals nowadays.
To raise people’s interest in walking, there are some workable solutions to be adopted. The governments should be pioneers in this progress by investing in painting the walking stairs to be colorful. Also, add some attractive decorations to them. For example, some 3D painting artists can be hired to paint their eye-catching works of art on the walls and the staircases, which may make people excited to use the stairs the next time. Furthermore, opponents who are too lazy and rarely do exercise regularly, should buy a barbell to do some gym exercises or spend more time doing some aerobics to improve their health. The government can build some places that are only for walking to encourage the people
to get outside and have some brisk walks to improve health and prevent disease.
In conclusion, people dislike walking for several reasons, and this problem of inactivity can be addressed with some measures suggested.
