Band 8+: Directors and managers in organizations are usually older people. However, some believe that younger people would make better leaders. To what degree do you support or oppose this idea?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many organizations, leadership roles are predominantly held by older individuals. However, a growing number of people advocate for younger leaders, believing they may be more effective. While I acknowledge the experience that comes with age, I strongly support the idea that younger individuals can, in many cases, make better leaders.

To begin with, younger leaders often bring innovation and adaptability to the table. In today’s fast-paced and technology-driven world, the ability to respond quickly to the change is crucial. With their upbringing in the digital era, young people tend to be more agile and open to new ideas. This mindset is invaluable in modern organizations, where staying ahead of trends can determine success or failure. For instance, many technological startups such as Facebook or ByteDance, founded by young entrepreneurs, have disrupted traditional industries with bold and creative approaches which revolutionize global markets.

Additionally, younger leaders tend to foster more inclusive and collaborative working environments. In other words, they are more likely to value diversity, encourage open communication, and prioritize employees’ well-being. These traits are instrumental in contributing to long-term organizational success. Unlike the hierarchical leadership style often associated with older generations, younger managers are more inclined toward a participative style, which can boost morale and productivity. That said, the value of experience and wisdom possessed by older leaders should not be dismissed. In certain contexts, such as crisis management or strategic decision-making, years of accumulated knowledge can be beneficial. However, generally, leadership should not be based entirely on age, but on competence and vision.

In conclusion, although older leaders offer invaluable experience and insights , I believe that younger individuals are better equipped to lead in a rapidly changing world. From my perspective, their innovation and progressive mindset are essential to driving progress in modern organizations.
