Education is suggested to be free for all people and paid for and managed by the government. To some extent, I agree with this view, but there are other aspects to take into account.
One reason for prioritizing free education is that it helps to increase the number of specialists in different fields. That is to say, when the government provides free education, there will be a large number of professionals, including but not limited to engineers, doctors, and other necessary occupations. As a result, society might not face many problems, such as a lack of standard transportation and healthcare. Without education, countries may struggle to tackle issues caused by a lack of knowledge. Given this, education has a crucial role in developing a country and avoiding such consequences.
However, providing free education can also be a wrong decision. In other words, most students may not take free education seriously, since free things are often not valued in most cases. As a result, the quality of education may decrease, and private universities can be more beneficial. Moreover, state universities might not be competitive, resulting in the closure of such educational institutions. Therefore, if the government offers free education, it should be strictly controlled by government authorities.
In conclusion, although free education plays an important role in cultivating professionals, I believe that this idea would only be effective if it is well controlled by the government.
