Isn’t it amazing to study abroad? Many people believe that going to another country to study is a good way to broaden their horizons; however, this has several disadvantages. This essay will elaborate on both perspectives.
On the one hand, studying abroad is a favourable opportunity for students to broaden their horizons about the culture of the country they are studying in. For example, in Vietnam, students just know beautiful traditions and customs through the Internet or books, which sometimes makes them confused and misunderstand. However, when students live as locals and experience them directly, they can fully understand their beauty and value. Another thing is that studying abroad can help people build global networking. International universities have a lot of students, teachers and experts coming from different countries; therefore, study abroad students can not only widen their knowledge but also expand their global relationships, which is useful for their future.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of going foreign land to study. The first drawback is that students may have a financial burden. The cost of living, eating, or commuting is expensive, ranging from a hundred million VND to a billion VND annually, which many students can not afford. Take an example, in Vietnam, students need roughly 5 to 10 million VND to pay their living costs, while in the UK, excluding the tuition fees, the living costs are a billion VND, which is hard to pay. Secondly, international students will have mental problems. Living far away from their homeland and taking responsibilities alone can make they feel lonely and, in the long term, can lead to depression and mental breakdown.
In conclusion, studying abroad has both positive and negative aspects, so if people want to learn in an international environment, they should consider and prepare carefully in order to avoid bad situations.
