Over the last few decades, advertising has become deeply embedded in society. In this regard, while some individuals believe that it has many benefits, some might not agree with this statement. My initial impression is that, although it contributes positively in several ways, it also generates notable concerns.
On the one hand, advertising has brought different advantages for humanity. To elaborate on this issue, one of the most significant impacts is economy growth. Advertising help companies attract more customers, which help increase their sale rates. This action can lead to different job opportunities as well. Furthermore, advertising provides information on new products and services which can help people easily make choices when it comes to purchasing. Therefore, it can be said that advertising can have a beneficial social impact.
Nevertheless, advertising also carries several negative consequences. To be more precise, the unrealistic expectations that it sets by showing a perfect life or unrealistic beauty standards, which can lead people to be dissatisfied with themselves and their lives. Moreover, advertising manipulates emotions by using certain music, celebrities, and even by targeting specific groups such as teens and children, they lure individuals to purchase items that they might not need, and in some cases it leads to debt. For these reasons, the drawbacks of advertising can be damaging.
In conclusion, advertising has both constructive and harmful impact on society by targeting vulnerable groups and creating unrealistic expectations. However, a balanced approach and stronger regulations are essential to mitigate the negative effects while preserving its positive contributions.
