It is believed that peers have a more significant impact on a child’s academic performance than their parents. Because a child is the product of the many relationships that surround them so this opinion is completely inaccurate and lacks objectivity. This essay will discuss this problem and give my point of view.
Nowadays, offspring spend most of their time at school, so it is undeniable that classmates affect them, especially their learning outcomes. During the study process, children are able to learn from one another and develop collaboratively. For instance, a number of studies have indicated that learning alongside peers can result in improved academic performance. Besides, regular exposure to classmates may influence the offspring to pick up both positive and negative habits. Therefore, exposure to classmates with varying study habits may have an indirect influence on academic outcomes
However, concluding that individuals of the same age group have a greater impact on children than their family is short of sufficient evidence. While the child may form study habits at school, it is ultimately the parents who determine whether to cultivate or discard those habits. For this reason, it is the family and the students themselves who are responsible for shaping their academic success. Furthermore, parents are instrumental in creating a conducive learning environment at home. They can ensure that their child has a quiet space to study, access to necessary tools and materials, and a healthy routine that promotes focus and productivity. Edison serves as a prime example of this, having been mocked by his peers for his poor academic performance. Nevertheless, the encouragement and guidance provided by his mother played a crucial role in his development into an extraordinary scientist. If parents and family provide the right kind of education, students can fully develop their potential.
In conclusion, it is inaccurate to assert that peers have a major influence on academic outcomes. Fundamentally, these are all external factors, it is the students themselves who play the decisive role in shaping their academic success. However, families should work together with friends and schools to create the best conditions for children to learn and develop.
