Band 6+: Do you think children should grow up in the countryside rather than in a big city? Support your opinion with reasons and examples.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many people think children should grow up in the countryside rather than big city while others say that big cities are always places of opportunity and parents nowadays definitely try hard to bring their children to the more developed area. From my point of view, I don’t think any place is better because each place has its own advantages and drawbacks along with children’s growth process.

Firstly, living in the countryside may avoid children from the hustle and bustle lifestyle. They will not get addicted to technological devices such as mobiles phones or tablets as there is a lack of electric and wifi resources in the urban area. Therefore, they will have a chance to experience their childhood completely together with many folk games, for instance, fly kites, mandating square capturing, or tug of war. Besides that, the people there are also more open-armed and willing to help you than those in the big city due to the huge difference in their minds and lifestyles. In contrast, the educational system of some regions with difficulties in economics can not be as modern as the one in other developed areas leading to the low quality in teaching and studying process. For example, in my country, in many provinces that are remote from the mainland or located in the mountain area, the students have to cross an extremely long and dangerous way to get to school and they do not have enough facilities to reach up-to-date education.

Secondly, there is no doubt that the infrastructure in the city is extremely developed and modern. The children can easily find anything they need and reach state-of-the-art technology. Moreover, the children who live there seem to be really sporty and energetic that they not only spend time studying but also pay attention to a range of competitions about a lot of fields in their daily lives. On the other hand, the children who grow up in a city may not have an opportunity to enjoy their childhood as they spend all day playing games or going to school and extra classes. Another problem is that the research illustrates the proportion of children in the city who have eye diseases such as nearsightedness or astigmatism is twice higher than those living in countryside.

In conclusion, growing up in the countryside or in a big city depends on a lot of criteria in each parent’s condition. Nowadays, the local government has many directions to provide more modern facilities to help the children who are living in the countryside so that they are able to study better. As an example, a gifted school in Ha Tinh Province has a reputation as one of the most beautiful and modern high schools in Vietnam. Finally, each area has its own benefits and disadvantages. Consequently, no matter whether the children are living in the countryside or a developed city, we should try our best, be willing to surmount the difficulties and be careful to avoid the negative sides of the places.
