While some assume that this approach can be inadequate, I firmly concur that this notion is the most effective method to foster children’s communication skills and offer opportunities in the work market.
To begin with, having an additional language is imperative for students, as it enables them to communicate smoothly with those who are from different countries. To illustrate, if a young leaner obtains another language, they can deal with different situations and learn more about a treasure trove of cultures, customs and languages from other countries. I n the UAE, for instance, many young expatriates use English language to communicate with each other and collaborate to perform different tasks at schools. This example reflects the significance of studying a second language to motivate not only culture diversity but also global communication.
Furthermore, pupils who acquire a foreign language have a better future because they are more eligible to work. When an adult graduate obtains a foreign language, they can seize multiple labour opportunities easily. This has been significantly proven by a survey conducted by recruiters of many international companies in Egypt, which emphasizes that around 60% of the desirable candidates who pursue for jobs are those who hold a foreign language such as English of Korean just because of their lingual abilities to deal with the clients and serve the foreign costumers efficiently. Thus, it can be said that gaining an additional language beside the mother tongue is quintessential for a bright future.
Nevertheless, some argue that this approach may lead to loss of identity and one’s mother tongue. In other words, children may utilize the foreign language excessively and forget their own language. However, it is crucial to learn new languages and balance between them without outperforming one another. Therefore, children should learn diverse languages to live and adapt a harmonious world.
