There is an ongoing debate about whether children should have a stay-at-home mother or a mother who works. While some argue that mothers who stay at home with their children, have enough time to communicate with their children about various subjects, others believe that working mothers can contribute significantly to a family’s financial stability, enabling children to grow up in the environment that provides them with valuable opportunities to develop in their personal and future professional lives. However, in today’s rapidly evolving world, I tend to believe that children benefit from a mother who work and spend appropriate time at home with them, as this supports both children’s emotional and personal growth.
On the one hand, supporters of stay-at-home mothers claim that as they have adequate time to interact with their children, they can provide them with emotional support and allow them to share their emotions and struggles. This can enable children to seek advice from them instead of relying on others and their friends. As a result, children can gain insightful tips and overcome their emotional challenges more efficiently. For instance, it is widely believed that due to mothers’ kind and supportive nature, they are among the most reliable people for children, allowing them to share their emotional, social, educational and professional issues. This creates unique chances for children to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Hence, such mothers are more likely to be more beneficial for children.
On the other hand, critics argue that working mothers can bring about more beneficial outcomes to children’s lives because they contribute to mitigating a family’s financial challenges. This can reduce stress of life, improve living standards, and offer unique opportunities for children to go to universities and use top-notch facilities. Consequently, working mothers lay the foundation for children’s personal and professional development. For example, in developing countries such as Iran, mothers work alongside fathers, which has a positive impact on overcoming economic challenges. This has enabled children to be bought up in more stable families and have the opportunity to continue their education. Thus, working mothers can also make a significant difference in children’s present and future lives.
To sum up, from my perspective, while stay-at-home mothers provide children with emotional support and the opportunity for meaningful communication, working mothers play a crucial role in improving a family’s financial status, allowing children to access better facilities and educational opportunities. Therefore, a mother who work and have enough time to interact with children can bring more benefits, ensuring children’s overall development.
