Nowadays, there is a notable number of young children owning a phone. Unsurprisingly, having phones in such a young age can lead to many disadvantages. Therefore in this essay, I am going to give my own opinion regarding the pros and cons and whether there are more benefits than drawbacks.
When it comes to the advantages, learning how to use a phone from a young age can contribute to possibly greater security. Imagine, children being lost from their parents or even worse being kidnapped; knowing how to use the phone to call their family or police might help them from these dangerous situations. Despite there are many parents view the phone as a tool which can reduce the risks for their child, a lot of parents also terrified of the idea of letting their child with a phone. This feeling is understandable since there is a great deal of unethical content and bad influence on the internet that children might stumble upon and emulate.
Based on my personal opinion, I would say that having a phone when the children are too young engenders many disadvantages which might even outweigh the benefits. I think if parents are worry about their child’s safety; buying a watch that can only call and receive the calls is a better way. This is due to the fact that small children are not mature enough to differentiate between constructive and destructive content, and even some adults still cannot control their screen time, let alone children. By constantly consuming information or entertainment on the phone, the child would lack concentration and interest in other types of activity, viewing traditional activities as monotonous.
In conclusion, after considering all the pros and cons, I do believe that small children should be regulated by their parents not to use phones or at least limit their screen time, and parents should be aware that their nurturing can reinforce the child to learn how to take a proper approach to phone.
