One school of thought holds that better skills and more creativity can be boosted by participating in an interesting activity than reading a book. In this essay, I will discuss both views and explain why I advocate reading more.
Granted, one might argue that enjoyable activities provide a rich landscape for skill development. The key rationale behind this belief is that children gain knowledge through practical activities such as: creative games, learn passively through songs and videos as they provide visual effects, tours around historical sites,….This can be illustrated by the popularity of applying activities into teaching nowadays. Furthermore, doing enjoyable activities stimulate and encourage them to be more creative and exciting to learn more skills. It is proved thoroughly that children gain knowledge more easily through images and melody. Consequently, it is reasonable to encourage this method of education. Considering these factors, the idea of doing an exciting activity with a child seems perfectly justifiable.
However, the mentioned feature of entertaining activities can not displace the importance of the perusal. Perhaps the foremost reason would be that reading is the best way to foster young people’s mental qualities and knowledge. Reading not only improves a child’s concentration, memory and vocabulary but also increases their imagination and creativity. No matter what material they read, these sources usually have logical outlines and clear sentences that often stimulate children’s independent thinking process. For example, children’s brains accept a lot of information and analyze it as they are reading science books, articles or journals. In addition to this, reading helps individuals develop problem-solving skills. Besides providing academic knowledge, many books also mention case studies related to that knowledge. Consequently, students can find methods to solve problems quickly if they have to face similar circumstances.
In conclusion, even though enjoyable activity has some advantages as it helps children learn more quickly and easily, it still has many drawbacks like children can not avoid being injured and may cause conflict among them. Therefore, I believe reading will always play a key role in the field of education.
