Owing to increasing number of obese people is a concern worldwide, placing significant pressures on the healthcare systems. Some argue that physical education lessons in school curriculum is the most effective way to deal with this issue, while I agree that increasing physical education lessons can play a beneficial role in addressing this issue. Following paragraphs will elaborate the arguments to support this stance.
Increasing the physical education classes in schools has several advantages. First of all the most significant point is that, it encourages the children to develop healthy habits from a young age as a result obesity can be prevented later in life. On one hand regular physical activity helps us maintaining a healthy weight but also improves the physical and mental state, on the other hand, physical education provides an opportunity for students to repose academic stress and anxiety. Besides that, countries with mandatory physical education lessons, such as Finland, report lower obesity rates among the children.
However, it could be argued that only physical education lessons may not fully resolve this issue as obesity is influenced by various factors, like poor diatary habits and sedentary lifestyle. Another point is that, without educating the students about nutrition and promoting eating healthier diet at home, additional physical education lessons may be limited. In essence, it can be tackled by the increased combination of physical education and promoting a balanced diet among them.
In conclusion, while increasing physical education lessons in school is a valuable solution to obesity, however, it is not a standalone solution. Several factors, like nutrition education and consuming diet which contain more fibre, is crucial to address causes of obesity and alleviate the strain on healthcare systems.
