Although London and Ho Chi Minh are both dynamic urban centers, they differ greatly in their geographical features, climate, and language.
One of the distinguished features is the geography characteristics of both which are in two different continents. London belongs to England, the River Thames cuts London in half, creating northern and southern halves. Because the city was built on the flood plain of the River Thames, London resulted to being a lowland, meaning the city is generally flat. Iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and Big Ben attract millions of visitors each year. In contrast, Ho Chi Minh city, known as Saigon, lies in southern Vietnam’s tropical lowlands with the Saigon river flows underneath its bustling districts. The city is famous for its busy market and modern skyscrapers.
Moreover, there are also some striking differences in climate. London experiences a temperate maritime climate with mild summers, cool winters, and frequent rainy days. On the other hand, Ho Chi Minh city has a tropical climate. It stays hot and humid all year, with a clear division between its rainy and dry seasons. The weather change influences the citizens’ lifestyle and attraction to adapt to the environment.
Another aspect that is distinct between two-sided cities is language. English is the official language in London, and as one of the world’s most widely spoken languages, most travelers find it easy to communicate in the city. Ho Chi Minh City’s official language is Vietnamese, which can be more challenging for foreign visitors to communicate and understand. While English is increasingly spoken in tourists areas, restaurants or markets, outside of those place may require some basic Vietnamese phrases.
