Even though economic growth is usually the main way to judge a country, many feel that other factors are just as important. Personally, factors like public health and education are of equal significance for a nation’s well-being.
Without a doubt, there are several other essential factors to look at besides economic progress when evaluating a country’s success. The most obvious factor to consider is public health. A healthy population is the foundation of any strong country. If citizens are constantly suffering from illnesses, let alone being unable to afford medical care, even the richest country cannot be called successful. Therefore, the quality of hospitals and affordable healthcare should be taken into consideration just as much as economic wealth. Apart from this, the education system is another indispensable factor. That is because schools and universities shape the minds of the next generation, providing them with the skills needed to build the future. A well-educated population is highly likely to drive innovation, thereby significantly reducing poverty and crime rates. For these reasons, a country’s achievements cannot be measured by financial statistics alone.
Turning to the questions of relative importance, I firmly believe that these elements are interconnected. For instance, a society cannot have a strong workforce or effective schools if its residents are constantly dealing with poor health. Once people are frequently sick, productivity declines, and when children miss classes due to illness, their education suffers. Without a solid education system, a country will lack the skilled professionals, be it doctors or engineers, needed to run a growing economy. Ultimately, a country requires financial wealth to fund these very hospitals and schools, making every single factor dependent on each other.
In conclusion, although financial wealth matters, I am in favor of viewing a country’s success as a mix of economic growth, public health, and education. Since these elements are interconnected, no single factor should be valued above the others.
