Some entrepreneurs think that subsidized memberships for gym and sports clubs are beneficial to employees, while other owners believe that this has no benefits for employees. In my perspective, it is not at all an advantage, as some employees might not be interested in this subsidy, and monetary gain might motivate them more. We can debate this further comprehensively below.
On the one hand, some employers believe that it is an advantage to employees, because they might be more motivated and devoted to the company. Moreover, it would reduce the sick leave taken by employees. For instance, I have read a magazine which mentioned that the companies which gave subsidies are good at creating new ideas and producing new things for the development of the company.
On the other hand, employees might not be interested in these subsidized memberships for the gym or sports club because of hectic work; whereas, they would be motivated by economic benefits, as they can spend that money according to their needs. To give an example, my friend worked for a company before that only gave a gym membership, which disappointed her. So she decided to resign from the company, and recently, she joined a company where she gets many bonuses, and that motivated her. Moreover, she did not take any leave, and she is giving her best to improve the company.
In summary, subsidies or bonuses are important to motivate employees, but they should be useful and beneficial to the employees.
