Business owners sometimes ask questions about private information like, their hobbies or interests, and whether they married or not, to people who apply for jobs. Some people say these details may be relevant and helpful but, the rest of the people disagree. I think this kind of information is really important when a person applying for a job.
Employers ask some sort of questions to the people who apply for jobs because, they need to know who they are going to work with. Therefore ı think they can ask some private questions like their marital status. Employers are asking questions about hobbies and interests too which is quite normal because the better the employer and employee know each other the better the efficiency and workplace environment. As a result of this both sides will be happy, furthermore the communication between them will also improve. On the other hand, asking these questions is for choosing the right person for this job. For example, if a person who applied for a job has an interest about team based sports, easily will be a first pick. Because most of the employers want a peaceful workplace. For interests, If the applicant improves himself/herself in addition to using her free time, such as reading books and learning new things, she can attract the attention of employers.
If an employer goes too far when asking a question about marital status, applicants can think is this a discriminatory manager? For example, if a woman has a child, manager can think she will not work enough for the job. This is a discriminatory thought. When employees think like that they can want to leave, this means an opportunity is missed whereas she could be a very good worker.
In conclusion, if employers go too far when they are trying to know who the person is applying for a job, this will effect both. But if they ask the questions nicely both sides will be happy.
