In this contemporary era, English has become a common language, used all around the world, which is leading to a decline in the use of other local languages.
From my perspective, this trend provides both positive and negative impact on society, which I will discuss in the forthcoming paragraphs.
On one hand, utilizing one common language as a way of communication plays a pivotal role in globalization, where individuals from different cultures can share emotions and ideas with others, although they are not familiar with each other’s native languages. Moreover, people who have completed their education, especially from English-medium schools, can get more opportunities during job seeking, as it adds extra credits being a multilingual or bilingual in their resume.
On the other hand, youngsters’ curiosity about learning English for a better future can diminish the importance of their own culture. Although they follow all the traditions from previous generations, they might not be able to read or write the language their ancestors used in daily life. For Instance, Punjab is a state in India where the majority of people speak Punjabi however, it has been found that this generation is not capable of writing the Punjabi language accurately as elders. They are not even familiar with Gurmukhi and the grammar concepts, which exacerbates the issue of lossing their own identity.
Overall, although English has become one of the most popular language, which helps in globalization and better opportunities for future growth, the los local heritage of different regions becomes the serious issue. There is no doubt that English Language can be beneficial in multiple ways if used along other native languages.
