The world today is witnessing a severe competition caused by emerging economies that are trying to keep up with western advanced economies. This results of a higher pressure on the earth’s natural resources. While economic experts advocate for increasing the consumption, keeping the economy’s best interest in mind, environments call for saving nature from that unnecessary consumption spree. I completely agree with the later and in this essay, I will explain my reasons.
First, it is a well-known economic fact that natural resources are scares, yet since the industrial revolution humans has exploited almost half of the earth natural reserve such as coal, oil and gas according to national geographic. Through ever-increasing populations, I believe, consumption will only keep increasing and nature will be in more danger. In light of that, governments started to bear in mind the importance of diversification their sources of energy between renewable and non-renewable along with promoting the production of products that last for longer time.
Secondly, discouraging the consumption mentality actually benefits the well-being of the people while reducing wastes. When people ditch that mindset and stop focusing on material means their mental health will improve have more peace of mind and save more money. In addition, one of the main reasons why products should be made to last is to reduce the amount of waste that is produced as people will buy less products and recycle or repurpose the non-functional ones.
In conclusion, products should be made to last and that governments should boost the motivation to make more durable products and take steps to discourage people from constantly buying new products. Due to the numerous advantages on the environment and earth inhabitants, I am strongly advocating this approach.
