It is often asserted that social integration has a positive influence on the world’s economies, while the potentially dangerous aspects should not be taken an eye off or neglected. As far as I am concerned, I completely agree with the idea that there are pros and cons to the globalization.

First and foremost, globalization is the process of enhancing economy by merging multiple countries into one in order to facilitate exchange of goods, services, and capital across the world. To begin with, there are countless benefits to this phenomenon. First of all, it increases the employment accessibility among citizens. The reason for that is that developing countries come with the shortage of skilled labor and different countries are in demand of different fields of labor, which opens up a new horizon for job seekers of various majors to make a living out of it, which is a primary factor contributing significantly to the development of the economy. Secondly, globalization gains people access to a larger number of resources. A fundamental reason why countries cooperate with one another is to get their hands on the rich diversity of resources that those countries do not have or are in need. If it were not for the flow of resources, many products, devices or appliances would not exist today. Smartphones can be cited as an example. the materials required to produce them can be counted as rare and not many countries possess it; therefore, if those nations had kept it for themselves in the first place, we would not have phones to use, at least until the future. This demonstrates the paramount importance of globalization.

Conversely, it would be unwise to ignore the disadvantages it brings to our lives and the world as a whole. Firstly, it packs a serious punch to the environment. This is quite self-explanatory, as nations amalgamate with one another, exploitation of resources and materials occurs, which, overtime, erodes the diversity of those countries’ environment. For example, deforestation and loss of biodiversity arise when exploitation and construction of infrastructure take place. Moreover, the process of transporting material to one country to another also increases the emission of greenhouse gases. Secondly, the process of social integration loosens the attachment between the country’s social identity and its residents, especially the young generation. When nations merges, people are likely to migrate to the other country and also brings the cultural value of their place of birth with them. Long exposure to this might end up in people preferring the traditions of the other country, which wears away the strength of the bonds between people and the cultural identity itself.

In conclusion, globalization, while positively boosts the general face of the world, its downside must be carefully monitored and not be ignored by any means.
