In the modern world, online grocery stores develop rapidly around the world while significant reduction of local markets have been an obvious trend. Some people say that the replacement of local supermarkets by delivery services have more advantages than disadvantages. I diagree with this argument and I will explain why in more detail in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, the one of the most serious current environmental issues in the world is global warming. To reduce the impact of the issue is to reduce carbon emissions. Delivery processes often create excessive amounts of air pollution while processing, packaging and shipping. For example, most online grocery stores sell imported food products which required a long transportation via airplanes or ships.
In contrast, online grocery shopping platforms are essential for people those who work from early morning. For example, in South East Asia, most local markets are opened only in the morning and people who are working at that time are impossible to get fresh food products. Thus, for them, online delivering services are the most convinient way to get fresh food products at any time.
In my opinion, it is important to remain local markets to support local businesses. For example, In Viet Nam agriculture is one of the largest sector of businesses. This means many people are depending on the profit from the profit from local markets. To support their life and the country’s economic development, it is important to keep local markets.
In conclusion, although online grocery stores are convinient to buy food products, there are more benefits to use local food markets. Such as to mitigate global warming and support local farmers.
