Huge ecological organisations evolve people’s attention to current problems: global warming, water pollution and climate change. But one of the most significant reasons of these changes is still not completely revealed: producing and selling plastic bags and bottles. In my opinion, every country should stop this on-going damaging circle.
First thing we should consider while talking about the advantages of this law is that the majority(about 92%) of plastic is impossible to recycle. Therefore, every plastic bottle you’ve ever bought is still laying somewhere on our Earth. Secondly, even if it is recycled there is no guarantee that this process was ecologically friendly due to the behavior of this material while heating. Thirdly, plastic is extremely toxic for human-being, causing diverse health problems. Doctors don’t recommend drinking from plastic bottles due to it’s negative side-effects and insist on not drinking from the same plastic bottle more than one day. According to these factors the idea of the prohibition of producing and selling plastic bags and bottles seems pretty logical and extremely urgent to be used. But there are some things we should consider before making it our reality.
It’s undeniable that plastic is extremely light, cheap and lasting material. We should find an appropriate alternative and I am afraid that fragile and heavy glass is not the best solution for our modern society. The other thing is that while having a bad impact on our environment in general, plastic is more eco-friendly while being transported compared to the glass transportation. The third reason to consider is the availability of plastic. Some countries without clean water don’t have any other alternatives to get it and it would be unsympathetic of developed countries to judge them for it.
To sum up, the prohibition of producing and selling plastic bags and bottles is a complex idea that needs thorough analysing and discussing. But we shouldn’t postpone this process in order to save our planet and the eco-system we live in.
