Everybody should stay at school until they are 18 years old is a controversial topic that divides opinion, yet many people rarely understand the full scope of it. The following essay will examine both sides of this argument and present my personal view.
On one hand, those who stay at school until they are 18 years old will be offered a clear curriculum and the guarantee of knowledge. Without any doubt, when people stay at school, they are allowed access to study plan, which is certified by the Ministry of education, leading to learners being able to study with a clarity guidance. In addition, staying at school also provide several opportunities such as better study space, always have teacher to answer students’ questions, or being able to access a huge category of knowledge. Furthermore, companies and businesses are tend to recruit people who have already finished 18 years at school, that is also one in many reasons why some people agree with this phenomenon.
On the other hand, several advocates claim that school may limit people’ creativity, abilities, or even skills. When people stay at school, they have to follow school’ rules and this may limit the creativity of students, leading students might feel stress, not interested in study, or even quit the school. Moreover, not all people are good at mathematics, literature, or other subjects but they are good at other skills like cooking or knitting. For these persons, forcing them to stay at school until they are 18 may prevent them from developing their strengths at the right time. Instead of spending years on academic subjects that do not match their abilities, they could spend more time on the abilities that they are good at, which allows them to build practical skills and choose a suitable career path.
Personally, I believe that both sides of the argument have its own benefits. While staying at school provide a structured curriculum , but it is also undeniable that practical skills and real-life experience play an essential role in personal life. Therefore, instead of making it compulsory for everyone, school should be more flexible and students should be allowed to choose the path that suits their abilities and interests.
In conclusion, staying in school until 18 works well for some people but not for all. A flexible education system would be the best solution for supporting different types of learners.
