Environment has become a growing concern for humans in such a rapidly evolving world. In this essay, some ways in which humans cause damage to the environment will be explored before some possible solutions are suggested for the authorities.
The human race poses two main severe environmental issues. Primarily, illegal hunting and mass agriculture expansion have led to the extinction of many key animals. To elaborate, the mass farming demands an overwhelming amount of land, which involves the destruction of animal habitats. Therefore, wildlife have to live in unsuitable habitats while still under the threat of illegal hunting and poaching, left alone the declining number of individuals in these species. This phenomenon negatively affects the whole biodiversity, including humans themselves. Moreover, air pollution is another noteworthy problem. Specifically, our growing population means that more vehicles have to be used for commuting. Given the fact that the current public transportation and electric cars are still imperfect, individuals still have to resort to fuel-based cars, which release a considerable amount of CO2 and other pollutants into the air.
Fortunately, many effective approaches could be taken by the government to address these negative effects. Regarding the dying out tendency of animals, stricter laws against illegal hunting and extensive agriculture could be created. This is because the current penalties for activities that have long–lasting effects on the environment are only low fines or short imprisonment terms, which are not severe enough to discourage people, especially those money–conscious ones, from violating the laws for profit. This also raises the general public’s awareness, making them more hesitant whenever they want to break the laws. For the air pollution, the authorities could spend more on developing public transportation and electric vehicles. By optimizing these alternatives, people could be incentivized to use them more, leading to the reduction of pollutants released into the air.
In conclusion, humans damage the environment mainly by destroying natural habitats and polluting the air. To solve these effects, measures such as stricter rules and developing alternatives for fuel cars are necessary for their effectiveness and reasonability.
