Influence of foreign art and culture on local traditions is a deniable phenomenon. This event has many benefits as well as few setbacks of its own.
The main advantage of such exposure is that it makes society more susceptible for change. Some orthodox and closed boundary communities who were suffering from some ages old malpractices have benefitted from such influence. Getting exposed to new and more flexible ideologies of developed countries which are propagated through many media platforms such as magazines, news and social media applications plays a crucial role in liberating old and unjust aspects of some societies. For example, many western TV shows and movies have made an impeccable difference on prevalent religious casteism and social inequality in Indian society.
Furthermore, international media has also a quite extensive effect on day to day life of people who follows it. Owing to this, it becomes more easier for the people to be more familiar to each other’s cultures. In addition to that, these movies and plays it often uses arts as it affects the dressing sense of its audience; conversely, affecting the local traditions. For example, in many African countries, people do not wear their traditional outfits anymore as they get familiar with clothing style of different nations and adapted them as their own.
On the other hand, there are setbacks of this foreign influence as not everything broadcasted by such platforms is beneficial to local cultures. Due to lower education and less knowledge of outside world, many natives fall victim to unsuitable and inappropriate content propelled by oversee media houses. For example, an ancient tribe in sub-saharan plains was first introduced with only 3 years ago. Thus the people were introduced with internet and very soon after the first introduction with world wide web it was found that many members of tribe got addicted to online adult sites.
To conclude, however, there are chains of bad effect of foreign media, most of the local cultures benefited from the advantages of international media exposure outweighed its disadvantages.
