Often consuming fast food can have severe effects on one’s health and well-being. Health professional argue that marketing campaigns of of certain foods should be banned by the government because of its negative effects in a similar way they banned the publicity of cigarettes and drugs. While the reasons for this suggestion holds some ground, I still disagree with the argument of banning its advertisement. This essay will discuss the reasons behind my disagreement and the impacts of banning fast food ads on the country.
Firstly, it is not plausible to ban food campaigns similar to cigarettes because it is not as dangerous as cigarettes which contains tar and other harmful ingredients that directly affects the lungs of the consumer. Moreover, cigarettes not only harm the smoker but also create possible dangers for the people in the surrounding. On the other hand, fast food only affects the consumer and its effects are not as dangerous as those of cigarettes causing life threatening situations. Moreover, fast food does not affect anyone else other than the consumer who is fully aware of its possible negative effects and willinigly opts for it.
Secondly, food industry is one of the most flourishing industry in Pakistan. Local food companies and global food chains contribute a lot to the country’s GDP and provide job opportunities to the local citizens. Banning nationwide advertisment campaigns will make the businesses suffer and loose a significant amount of their revenue. Consequently, this will result in job shortages and unemployment.
In conclusion, restricting the publicity of certain foods will not prove to be a good decision in contrast to banning of cigarettes ads because fast food does not pose a great danger to one’s health. Moreover, this will cause the local economy to suffer due to the enemployment created as a result of restrictions on food marketing.
