Band 7+: Fewer and fewer people walk on a daily basis. What are the reasons and how to encourage them to spend their time walking?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent decades, there has been a notable decline in the number of individuals who walk on a daily basis. This essay attempts to shed light on the driving factors behind this problem before outlining several solutions that should be adopted to tackle it.

There are two primary reasons as to why a numerous number of residents choose not to walk. Firstly, this behavior may stem from the proliferation of modern technology, which engenders the sedentary lifestyle among residents. For example, the widespread availability of smart elevators in shopping malls allows customers to effortlessly reach upper floors in a few seconds, fostering their reliance on such convenience and diminishing their motivation to walk. Secondly, the heavy use of technological gadgets significantly reduces the time inhabitants spend walking. In fact, individuals these days, especially those addicted to high – tech devices such as smartphones or televisions, are more likely to immerse themselves in their virtual world instead of engaging in physical activities, which could prompt them to have a sedentary lifestyle and detract from daily walking.

To combat this worrying issue, the following essential steps should be taken. One viable solution is that residents should limit their use of elevators in low – rise buildings. By opting to walk instead, inhabitants would not only enhance their physical strength but also mitigate the risk of being susceptible to various physical ailments. Another feasible step is that the government should allocate more budget on constructing infrastructures which promote physical activities of residents. With the introduction of new facilities such as walking paths and exercise parks, people might have motivation to take part in regular exercises and prioritize their well – being.

In conclusion, there are some underlying motives behind this negative tendency, and it is crucial that the aforementioned measures be implemented to deal with this issue.
