Band 6+: Fewer people today visit museums than in the past. Why is this? What can be done to encourage more people to visit museums in the future?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Individuals in today’s society are visiting museums less than previous years. This phenomenon is most likely caused by the museums themselves becoming mundane and not blending with today’s trend, however, it can also be due to people becoming more occupied with their lives.

From my sixteen years old self perspective, I believe museums hold so much beauty, art museums in particular that showcase the history and evolution of arts. Nevertheless, I must say exhibitions today are screaming bore. Unlike years ago, we can now conveniently search up absolutely everything online. From pictures to information – with a click of a finger they are all in front of us. Therefore, it’s no longer a hassle to pay for ticket fees, transportation costs or invest huge amounts of time.

Additionally, in today’s fast paced society, people are so occupied with life and society as whole has gradually shifted their interests to follow up the mounting pressure and expectation these society gives. Because of this, young people today are less fascinated by galleries, as they are more concerned with what valuable lessons these places can offer – lessons and experiences that cannot simply be found online.

Irrespective of drawbacks, there are numerous ways to increase aggregate demand and inspire people of today. This can be simply done by comprehending people’s interests and blending in with the trends. Since young people are more intrigued in receiving opportunities – we could start by hosting activities for young people to participate in such as internship opportunities or hosting beneficial webinars. Since young people are more intrigued by opportunities, we could start by hosting activities such as internships or beneficial webinars.

By engaging with visitors and creating a social ground for interaction, museums can reinvent themselves. In this way, they would no longer be considered boring, old-fashioned activities, but rather meaningful experiences that continue to inspire in the modern world.
