Following the advent of technological advancements, a plethora of aspects in life have been reformed entirely. One of those affected is friendships, and while a majority of internet users believe that social media platforms have provided multiple methods to make communicating with friends seem effortless and more convenient than ever, some argue that this way of practicing friendship would change its meaning. From my perspective, I fully agree that online-based friendships are truly not as meaningful as those where people meet each other face to face, and hanging out more frequently is totally advisable.
First and foremost, chatting or face time make it harder to transmit the true emotions. Lines of texts can’t elucidate what you are really thinking, while it is a essential part of offline-based friendships, where you can spot out everything through their eyes and facial expressions. Secondly, as online friendships often involve long list of users, this brings about the dispersion of attention, rendering these kinds of bond dealy fragile. It is because when not seeing each other face to face, ending a conversation is just a piece of cake and so is the opposite.
On the other hand, a friendship which takes place in real life makes being in company with your brotherhood truly profound and sentimental. Only when seeing each other offline will people be able to perform a much wider range of activities, from a picnic to a spontaneous road trip. These parts of a relationship accumulate and establish a deeper sense of intimacy. Last but not least, as the friendlist narrows down, your so-called friends are more likely to become close ones or even besties. For instance, with the same amount of time you can spend more time with only a few important people, in lieu of chatting with countless of different users. This would increase the chance of maintaining an enduring friendships over years or even decades.
To sum up, friendships that only take place online are definitely inadvisable due to their limited means of connection. In contrast, a friendship based on meeting each other in real life is more reasonable, representing an actual bond and having much higher sustainability, which is the core of a friendship.
