With today’s modernization and the cultural effect of developed nations, one might think that although globilization has made the lifestyles of people from different social backgrounds similar, it also caused the loss of cultural diversity. I totally disagree with this notion that traditions still thrive in many parts of the world, especially in rural areas where people still keep certain traditional practices.
On the one hand, there can be several reasons for the loss of cultural diversity. One of them is the Internet. Nowadays, there are many young people who imitate western culture with their hairstyle, clothing, or the way of thinking. To illustrate, youngsters are now bombarded with new trends on social media, and this has huge impact on their behaviour. They tend to follow and copy their peers on social media. Furthermore, especially young people tend to go abroad either for studying or working purposes and bring foreign culture naturally to home countries. Living abroad definitely affects immigrants’ native culture in numerous ways. For example, even in their diet, they may have to adjust foreign cuisine and living standards. However, when they return to their home, they could keep certain practices they think practical.
On the other hand, I believe that while globalization may have effect on smaller nations, it should not mean that local traditions will be lost forever. In many parts of the world, there can be found pure native cultures that globalization has not touched yet. For instance, in rural areas where there is not an access to the Internet or modern civilization, people still live traditionally. Most importantly, in order to keep traditions people need to be loyal to their cultures with the realization of their history. With taking pride in their history and culture people can protect their traditions from an integration of foreign culture. As a good example, China and Japan are considered as leading countries that globalization has not impacted. People in those countries value their languages, traditions, and heritages more than people who are from other affected countries. In China, for students, learning ancient philosophy, classical literature, and Confucian values, alongside STEM subjects is a must. Therefore, while globalization has certain level of effect on nations, it can be wrong to think people lose their native culture.
In conclusion, modernization can make the lifestyles of some people alike but it is the responsibility of all people to save and stay loyal to their culture.
