It is commonly assumed that one-player activities are nowhere near as significant for life as those required teamwork. Unappealing as this idea may seem at first glance, upon closer inspection, from my perspective, it becomes practical.
On the one hand, proponents of activities played alone tend to point out a combination of reasons. One of the most frequently cited one is that these kinds of pursuits potentially exert a decisive influence on individuals’ independence. This means that whilst partaking in one-player activities, sportpersons have to make their own effort, without any extrinsic motivation from others, thereby enhancing the ability to overcome challenges independently. What is more, engaging in these kinds of pursuits is instrumental to one’s physical and mental endurance. This adaption potentially assists them in making schedules and plans effectively, for example, to reach the goal in the future without any guidance. Therefore, one-player activities possibly fosters one’s independence and resillience.
On the other hand, these lines of reasoning might not be convincing, given that every individual neither applies themselves to focused practice nor puts up with excessive pressure, which may results in boredom and discouragement whilst participating in these kinds of activities. Subsequently, I do believe that team activities are of paramount importance in cultivating people’s knowledge and skills. To begin with, one common reason put forward is that pursuits required teamwork enable players to expand their social circles when meeting and making friends, developing their own personal relationships. Moreover, team activities are often considered catalysts for people to reach demanding targets. This means that members sharing the same goals easily gain external motivation from the encouragement of others, thus effortlessly stepping closely towards their own goals together without any hindrances. A prime exemplification of this is the Under-23 Vietnamese football team, whose opponents in the group stage of U-23 Asian Cup are professional players, South Korean and Japanese including. With the team spirits and dedication, however, they became the winner of that competition, shedding light on the fact that people can go through difficulties together as long as they support eachother.
To sum up, whilst it is understandable that many people supports one-player activities is due to the independence and endurance it may bring, I do believe that individuals can potentially reap benefits from team activities, personal relationship development and extrinsic motivation including, thereby reaching their goals more easily.
