Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about the fact that group and team activities bring more important skills for life while the activities that people do alone do not. While I accept that team work are necessary to improve a lot of essential skills, I believe that working alone also help people to develop skills.
On the one hand, there are two clear advantages of group and team activities. Firstly, group and team activities provide invaluable skills that solitary tasks rarely offer. It enhances communication and interpersonal skills. It means when collaborating with others, participants learn how to express their ideas and actively listen to everyone’s perspectives, thereby improving their teamwork and ability to build relationships. For instance, a student working on a group project will practice negotiating personal viewpoints and resolving disagreements with others, thus pre
paring them for a more professional team environment. Secondly, it also improve people’s problem-solving and adaptability. When they are exposure to diverse perspectives, multiple solutions will be considered from various angles, leading to better decision-making. For example, when faced group challenges, participants adjust strategies and compromise. thereby developing flexibility applicable to real-life situations.
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that the importance of tasks done alone must not be underestimated, although it often fail to foster the same range of life skills as group activities. Firstly, it restricts the development of interpersonal relationships. When working independently, people have fewer opportunities to practice negotiation or collaboration, leading to weaker communication and social skills. For example, when students study alone, they rarely participate in discussions or group work, thus struggling in professional team environments.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that group and team activities are important for people to develop their skills, I would contend that solitary work also improve their responsibility and independence. A balance should be struck between the two to achieve the best outcome.
