Globalization is a world-wide process that influences not only economy and labor market, but also people’s lives. Since a majority of modern society has an access to the Internet and social media, it is almost impossible to control the information that is spread there. Hence, many people believe that globalization contributes only to the uncontrollable spread of misinformation. However, from my point of view, it introduces a considerable number of opportunities, making our lives better.
To begin with, social media allows people to communicate with each other from any place. While staying at home, we can get acquainted with other people and learn something from them. In different countries people have social rules, norms, cultures, habits, etc. that may differ from those in our motherland. We can find something significant for ourselves there. Besides, it is good to ask for someone else’s opinions or advice. Other people may notice in ourselves some potential that we did not expect to possess. The main value of communication is the exchange of experiences and life secrets with each other.
Another argument in support of globalization is that a wider range of job opportunities became accessible. Increasingly people are becoming less afraid of expanding horizons and seeking a job abroad if there is nothing suitable for them in their country. Moreover, a lot of universities all over the world are open for students of different nationalities. Study abroad is a good opportunity to share knowledges, gain new skills, and learn how to collaborate with others. Such an experience will prepare young adults for the life after the graduation. Without influence of globalization such student exchange programs as Erasmus or FLEX would not exist. It also contributed to giving English a status of lingua franca. Due to this, we can speak this language in any corner of the globe and still be understood.
Finally, due to globalization, cultural boundaries are less visible. We ceased to divide people on social groups and judge them by their nationalities. Moreover, judging individuals by skin color or any body features that are unusual is not tolerable in contemporary society. It has become easier to integrate in the international community and not to be rejected. People started to value the possibility to communicate with each other.
Ultimately, globalization allows us to push the boundaries of our perception of the reality. We can see it from another perspective, and, what is more, we can discern something new in ourselves. Globalization promotes personal growth, development, and greater understanding of our inner world and other people’s as well.
