Almost in every metropolis, all over the globe, the number of people living on the streets had rapidly increased. This essay will discuss main cause of it, such as high living cost and employment issues with government support as solutions.
The primary cause of rising homelessness is unemployment, especially in big cities. Today, more and more people tend to move to big cities in search of better career opportunities, which in turn increases demand for available jobs. As time passes, this results in decreased employment supply, therefore many and many people cannot find jobs, Even if person have all qualifications that companies require, due to scarce available job places, they may become homeless. Another cause is high living cost in metropolises. People still may have a job but due to high accommodation, rent and facility prices they may be forced to abandon their staying place and have to choose to live outdoors. As a result, people who move to those cities in order to find better and highly paid jobs , are struggling. For example, in cities such as Hong Kong, extremely high accommodation prices and unstable employment, make it harder for residents to afford living in decent places.
There are several measures that governments can take to address these issues. First, they should invest in affordable housing and provide financial assistance for low-income families. This could help prevent vulnerable people from losing their homes because of temporary financial difficulties. For example in a family of four where only father works, sudden health problems or death may force this family to live on the streets. Second, governments and non-governmental organizations should offer employment programmes and vocational training in order to help people to acquire new skills and find stable jobs. As a result, they can become financially independent and afford permanent accommodation. For instance, Singapore have lots of employment programmes which attract people from around the world to move there and work.
In conclusion, the rise in homelessness is mainly caused by expensive housing and insecure employment. However, governments can reduce this issues by providing better employment practices.
