Should homework be banned?
Homework is a part of students’ lives around the world. We all experienced doing homework in our lives. Schools often give extra practice for students to do at home so they can review their lessons independently. Some students believe that homework makes them feel stressed and takes away their time to rest. However, other students enjoy doing homework because it helps them grow their discipline and review their lessons. This essay will discuss both views before giving a personal opinion.
A large amount of homework can make students feel pressured and stressed because of deadlines. Teachers usually give homework with short time limits and lots of material, not to mention that there are often many different subjects to be done at once. Students often struggle to manage their time, which makes them lack sleep. Lack of sleep affects their concentration at school, making it difficult to balance schoolwork and rest.
On the other hand, homework is beneficial for improving students’ discipline, expanding their knowledge, and building resilience. The ability to work under pressure is an important skill for every student. In the future, when they have jobs, they will be expected to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks, so it is crucial to train this skill from a young age. Homework can also help maximize students’ learning capacity.
In conclusion, banning homework is not the best idea. A better solution is to find balance instead of giving too much homework at once. Teachers should avoid assigning boring tasks and instead give meaningful and interesting homework that actually helps students learn better. They could also allow students to finish their work at school so they won’t have homework on weekends. The main focus should be to help students learn without causing stress. In my opinion, the current homework system should be improved to create enjoyable and engaging assignments.
