Some people strongly support the taking of risks while others avoid such, either as individuals or professionals. I am of the opinion that the merits far outweigh the demerits of risk-taking because risk takers have better career development, are good problem solvers, and usually gain something unexpected from their risky ventures.
Individuals who take risks are often people who focus on the benefits of certain decisions. They try to find solutions to the dangers surrounding that decision and then act on them despite the risk of failure. Many successful career- driven individuals often are risk-takers who despite fear of the unknown choose to migrate to another country or area, take a new Job that they believe have better prospects, and/or invests in risky ventures among others. As a result, they usually acquire professional growth more rapidly than their counterparts. For example, the owner of the popular software “Microsoft’ was once a school dropout who risked his education in order to thrive in the software industry. He later, at one time, became the richest man globally. Furthermore, people who take risks become more experienced when handling similar situations and are more likely to remain calm when situations of similar pressure arise in their personal lives or career-wise. Moreover, individuals who take risk are more likely to unexpectedly benefit financially, discover new inventions or innovations. This is true because many of Earth’s great discoveries are from scientists who take great risks. An example is the discovery of antivenom, which was discovered when a man continually injected himself with small doses of snake venom and gradually became immune to them.
Nevertheless, the drawbacks of risk taking cannot be overemphasized, as risk taking also leads to loss of income when an investment fails, coupled with the feelings of depression and some develop suicidal thoughts after losing all they have overnight. One survey conducted reports that, people who take risks are often optimistic but are more likely to become depressed than the average human.
In conclusion, although many are against the taking of risk while others embrace it, I am of the opinion that the benefits far outweigh the draw-backs because risk-takers tend to develop more professionally, they are more experienced in handling tough situations and are more likely to gain the unexpected benefits.
