It is a commonly held belief that a high-quality product that satisfies consumer’s needs attracts buyers naturally without any form of advertisement. Therefore some people consider advertising as a mere form of entertainment. While product quality plays a vital rolel in its commercial success, I disagree with the viewpoint that advertising is unnecessary due to its far-reaching impact in a competitive marketplace.
In today’s competitive marketplace product’s success is not so much contingent on quality as on consumers’ awareness of its existence. With advertisement becoming a crucial part of brand awareness, new companies often fail to gain popularity among customers. What is causing this phenomenon is that such companies have little market exposure and they simply go bankrupt because people have no idea about this company or product. Many start-up companies, for example, had no option but to leave marketplace due to the challenges in raising product awareness. Hence, without advertising businesses may see no other way than to give up on their operation.
Additionally, advertising is a source of information rather than just an entertainment. Displaying prices, features, and benefits of a product enables people to compare it with other competing brands and make informed choices. Before purchasing a new smartphone, for instance, one tends to search for the features and merits it offers. Without advertisement, customers would be left with no option but to buy products unaware of its full potential.
To sum up, despite the fact that a product with strong practical value seems to have no need for advertising, it is still crucial to take into consideration the benefits advertisement offers. Not only it enables brands to raise awareness among purchasers, but allows people make educated decisions instead of buying a random product.
