In Britain, when people gets older,they often go to reside in a home with other aged men and women where there are health workers who look after them. Frequently, this responsibility is paid for by the government. I am inclined to believe that this care should be paid by the family.
Firstly, paying for the care of aged people creates a sense of commitment and this brings about responsibility. For instance,there is a satisfaction derived from knowing that you were solely responsible for taking care of your aged parents and this joy can not be over emphasised. Also taking care of them by the family ensures a personalised and friendly environment.
Secondly,the government has alot on their list. Societal welfare should not be left for the government alone, they need an helping hand. This governmental responsibility would be a burden on the government as there are other sector where these funds can be channelled to.
Furthermore, this should be seen on the part of the family as a way of reciprocating the love and attention they received while growing up. If the aged people could cater for the household during their working days then why can’t they be taken care of by same family in their old age. For example, young people in Africa derive pleasure in taking care of their elderly ones. It is not so uncommon to see gifts been showered on them by the youngsters.
In conclusion, while it is necessary that aged people go to live in a home where they can be taken care of by nurses, it is also important that the payment for such care should be sorted out by the family.
