Nowadays, environmental issues are getting significant which are affected by human behaviour. It is often argued that degrowth, a policy of reducing levels of production and consumption within an economy in order to conserve natural resources and minimize environmental damage, is essential to mitigate ecological damage. However, I believe that humans should focus on achieving sustainable development through innovation and responsible economic practices which may offer a better result.
To begin, economic expansion is vital to poverty reduction and social welfare. Limiting economic growth could lead to an increase in the number of unemployed, decreased access to services, and hinder technological development in the world. Rather than restricting production and consumption, the world should develop and invest in green technologies like renewable energy which can prevent economic activity from harming the environment, allowing growth and sustainability to persist.
Furthermore, maintaining a degree of convenience is essential for society to have a good quality of life. However, transition towards environmental sustainability does not require sacrificing all comforts and economic benefits, but transforming them. By implementing policies that encourage eco-friendly industries, societies can balance prosperity with environmental responsibility, ensuring continued convenience without compromising the planet’s health.
In conclusion, while the urgency of environmental challenges is undeniable, inhibiting growth is not a wise solution to respond to these issues. Real sustainability emerges from innovation, adaptation, and global cooperation toward a healthier future, rather than from economic and convenience regression
