Positive And Negative

Band 6+: In many countries, people are choosing to live alone instead of with their families. Why is this the case? Is it a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, even if family houses are still common, there are numerous places where people prefer to build their own lives away from the family. This is mainly because it is more practical to be nearby the workplace. I believe this is a positive development as gathering times become chosen moments.

In today’s society, it is particularly common to drive or to be in transportations during a long period of time. However, many made the choice to live around their own workplace to avoid this issue. Indeed, for some individuals, losing time in displacements is a stress’ vector. For example, a recent study showed that in big cities, the daily average time spent in public transports is 90 minutes. Associated with noises, smells, and many visual solicitations, it often leads to a huge fatigue at the end of the day and many people prefer to avoid it.

Whereas many are passing a significant amount of time in the family house, others decide to live alone. Remaining away from the loved ones allows to deciding when to see them. As far as I am concerned, it is certain that it evits conflicts between family members. For instance, every peers do not necessarily have the same schedule and it can create some disturbances into the household community. Hence, evolving and rising children in a conflictual environment becomes difficult and being away makes more sense.

In conclusion, although there are still countless countries where people share the same life’s place, a large amount have chosen to stay further away. Mostly, this can be explained by professional reasons. Nevertheless, I assume that it contains more benefits than drawbacks as it permits more freedom for seeing each other.
