It is irrefutable that nowadays, due to accessibility of foreign products, people can access a wide range of food than locally produced food. While there are certain benefits to this trend, I believe the demerits outweigh the merits.
On one hand, there are a number of compelling reasons why I believe that people are eating a lot of foreign food instead of locally produced food is a negative development. One possible demerit is that it significantly affects to country’s internal economic progress. Because this trend not only reduces local production but also people are highly dependent to foreign goods and products than locally produced. As a result, country’s need more foreign currency to import this food and to mitigate citizen’s demands. This situation is mostly harmful for the local farmers because they cannot dominate local market with foreign goods, which makes them disinterested to cultivate local products. Furthermore, due to excessive dependency to foreign foods when any crisis happen worldwide and importers are unable to import, the prices of these foods increase considerably. As a consequence, this condition mainly impacts on the lower income families and they suffer a lot.
On the other hand, despite the disadvantages mentioned above, eating a lot of foreign foods has some benefits too. First and foremost, because of geographical condition, all kinds foods are not grown in all regions. Around the world some areas are suitable for jute, some for rice, some for mangoes, some for cherry, and so on. Through transferring those products to another regions, people are try to meet their needs. For example, the cherry fruits are not grown in Bangladesh due warm weather condition. So, Bangladesh import this fruits from Pakistan, Japan, and other countries. Moreover, By exporting local products, the farmers can earn a huge amount of money which is not possible to get from only producer countries. They can sell their goods with actual prices. As a result, this opportunity not only improves the farmers standard of living but also contributes to country’s national economic development.
In conclusion, although, there are certain advantages of this development, from my perspective, this trend negatively impacts on local food and business. we must be more wise and responsible in eating a lot of foreign food.
