Over the past few years, the concept of living alone has been hyped by many. This has mostly been influenced by globalisation and western societies. Parents in the west believe that their children should start living independently once they turn 18. This notion has been globally accepted these days, so much so that when someone is over the age of 18 and is still living with their parents, they are made fun of. Like every coin has two sides, in my opinion, there are advantages and disadvantages of living alone.
Living alone can have some benefits. Youth learns the ways to do their own chores, have absolute freedom and have a steady growth. Young generation can also be more independent and prepared for the challenges that life has in store for them. Furthermore, they are more equipped to handle the obstacles that they face.
While there are some benefits, some adverse consequences are also to be considered. Residing with family can provide people with the emotional and mental support which can prevent burnout in the longer run. In addition to this, some psychologists suggest that living with older and wiser generation can reduce the chances of suffering with anxiety and depression. Furthermore, parents can help children guide life in an easier manner since they have the experience as well as the expertise.
There’s no denying the fact that living alone is fun and has advantages but I truly believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Humans are social beings and we seek the support of our friends as well as family. While one might not get total freedom in a conservative home, there are ways through which this situation can be improved. In my opinion, the trade off between support and freedom should not be excuted.
