Band 6+: In many countries people tend to move overseas or move to a different part of their country after their retirement. Discuss why it is so and the outcomes of this situation. Provide specific reasons and examples to support your opinion

After retirement, it has been often noted that people are more inclined to move to a different part of their country or overseas. As contrary as this trend may appear, it has become quite popular in the recent years. The possible factors include the current work culture, economic pressure and the eagerness for exploration.

In today’s fast paced world, where a healthy work life balance barely exists, people spend most of their prime years working long hours, which leaves them with a little time to explore life outside the office. Hence, retirement becomes a great opportunity to living life on their own terms. For many, this means traveling, which was not possible previously. Several studies have shown that people who tend to travel several times a year have significantly less chances of having stress and depression. Thus, relocating after retirement becomes a tempting option to not only fulfil ones dream of cultural exploration but also to live a healthier lifestyle.

Moreover, inflation being at an all time high, coupled with the occasional salary increments make it difficult for many to maintain a good standard of living. Most people spend their life trying to live by fulfilling their basic needs, leaving travel as a luxury which they cannot afford. This drives most retirees to relocate to seek a more comfortable life elsewhere. For those from developing nations, relocating to developed countries not only provides a better quality of life for themselves in their twilight years, but also ensures better opportunities for their next of kin.

In my opinion, it is a sensible choice relocating either within or outside the country. Whether motivated by the need for a more affordable lifestyle, or the pursuit of new experiences, shifting to a different city or country can enhance ones quality of life during the golden years. Not only does this help expand ones horizons as humans, but also to give people a chance to live the luxury of exploration, regardless of age.
