Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 6+: Young people are often influenced by their peers. This is called peer group pressure. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

People have different views about the impact of students to each other. While there are many benefits for peer group pressure, I remain convinced that its drawbacks are far more significant.

Pressure from peers may impact positively on children in various ways. First and foremost it motivates students to attempt to compete with each other. Seeing their peers achieve better results, they may decide to study harder. Consequently, improvement and growth can be seen in their education. Furthermore, peer influance can encourage students avoid bad habits. One major reason is that they may fail to have enough time to doing them because of their many responsibilities. For example, harmful behaviours such as smoking, drinking and drug use may lead to several serious health problems.

Despite these arguments, I strongly believe that it may offer more significant disadvantages. Primarily, peer pressure may reduce the motivation and determination of students. They may become frasturated with failing subsequently, thereby many of them tend to fail to proceed their studies. To illustrate, many children may struggle to understand complex topics and solve difficult problems which can make them feel bored. Another negative impact is that studying excessively may influance their health negatively. In order to surpass their peers, students tend to study even at midnight. Unfortunately, this habit may bring severe health issues including eye strain, stomachache and headache.

In conclusion, although the influance of peers has many benefits for children, I am fully convinced that its disadvantages such as discouraging students from studying and bringing health problems can outweigh them.
