In recent years, aged individuals are not as much given respect compared to the. This issue is becoming increasingly common in today’s world. In my opinion, it is due to the culture and the generational gap.
One significant reason why there is a lack of respect towards old people is because of failure to pass down culture to the younger generation. In many countries, young individuals have forgotten their culture and heritage. They have abandoned their beliefs and morals which teach them to respect elders. For instance, many American teenagers don’t respect their parents or their grandparents because its the norm their country. However Indian or Chinese teenagers are much more polite and respectful compared to them. In addition to this, it is also due to the fact that the newer generation is of the opinion that respect should be earned and not demanded. Older people on the other hand, want things their conventional ways. This results in miscommunication and misunderstandings which ultimately causes both parties to fail to respect each other.
If there is no mutual agreement, this cycle is going to continue and may cause some problems. For example, young employees may ignore the seniority of older workers. Thus, they might not loop them in when they need consultation or advice. They won’t acknowledge the wisdom and experience of the seniors. This might result in failure, incomplete or poorly managed project. Furthermore, it will also affect old people. Ignorance or disrespect from younger generation may make them feel lonely and detached. This might have adverse effect on their health.
In conclusion, I believe failure to teach younger generation to respect elders is the main cause of this trend. This might cost the younger generation the wisdom and experience that old people can provide.
