The number of people pursuing higher education is increasing, so is the number of graduates who cannot find employment. This is a worrying situation, however there are some solutions to it.
The current problem of graduate unemployment is largely caused by there being too many university graduates. In the past 30 years, going to university has evolved from being an extremely rare occurrence for the smartest students mainly from wealthy backgrounds who wish to learn specialist knowledge into something that millions of young people do. The result is a surplus of overqualified candidates seeking the same jobs.in many countries, the economy is contracting and these graduates have to fight for a very few available positions. The ones who do not get a job I left unemployed because they feel too qualified to take a low-level position and work their own way up, especially after having spent four or five years gaining advanced qualifications.
This notwithstanding, there are some possible solutions first. The first thing to do is to recognise that higher education has become too common and some alternative routes should be thought. Rather than going from high school to university, students can instead being encouraged to find a educational training program and went to the workplace soon after leaving school. This might allow them to learn some practical skills rather than theoretical knowledge they would get to education, and then build up real work experience over over some period of time. In addition, universities could set up better facilities for students to get such practical experience, so that when they look for employment after graduation, they will not be at such a disadvantage..
In conclusion, the employment struggle of many university graduates stems from market saturation and lack of practical experience. Addressing this issue requires a combined effort from individuals to attain skills required by the job market and universities to align curriculums with industry demand and provide graduates with the skills, today’s competitive market needs.
